CHENEY, Wash. (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Idaho State Bengals visit the Eastern Washington Eagles at Reese Court. Idaho State (10-15, 3-9 Big Sky) arrives mired in a six-game losing streak, most recently falling 69-61 to Northern Colorado on Saturday. Eastern Washington (7-17, 4-8) has shown recent life, securing road wins at Montana and Montana State last week. The Eagles will look to replicate their dominant 84-66 victory over the Bengals on Jan. 17 in Pocatello. In that game, Eastern Washington’s defense stifled Idaho State, holding them to 38.7% shooting. A key matchup will feature each team’s top performer. Idaho State guard Connor Hollenbeck enters on a scoring tear, averaging 17.1 points over his last seven games. He poured in 27 points in a narrow loss at Weber State on Jan. 31. Eastern Washington will counter with forward Alton Hamilton, who is coming off a 15-point performance in the one-point win at Montana State and scored 15 in the previous win over Idaho State. Both teams have struggled for consistency this season. The Bengals’ last win came on Jan. 15 against Idaho. Their defense has been a particular concern during the skid, allowing an average of 78.2 points in the six losses. The Eagles, despite their recent road success, are just 4-5 at home this season. Thursday’s contest is the first of a critical back-to-back for both squads. Idaho State will travel to face rival Idaho on Saturday, while Eastern Washington hosts Weber State. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. PST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
