SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — The surging High Point Panthers, owners of the Big South’s best record, will look to continue their dominant season when they visit the South Carolina Upstate Spartans on Thursday night. High Point (22-4, 11-2 Big South) enters the G.B. Hodge Center on a five-game winning streak, having most recently defeated Radford 86-77 on Feb. 7. The Panthers have been nearly unstoppable in conference play, with their only league losses coming on the road. The Panthers are led by standout guard Terry Anderson, who is coming off a 24-point, four-assist performance against Radford. Anderson has been a consistent force, averaging 22.4 points over his last seven games. He torched the Spartans for 22 points in the teams’ first meeting, a commanding 89-69 High Point victory on Jan. 17. South Carolina Upstate (11-14, 5-8) seeks to halt its inconsistency and play spoiler at home. The Spartans are coming off a thrilling 100-94 overtime victory over Charleston Southern on Feb. 7, where guard Karmani Gregory erupted for 29 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Gregory’s scoring has been vital, though he was held to just nine points in the loss at High Point last month. The matchup pits High Point’s high-powered offense, which has scored 80 or more points in 10 of its last 12 games, against a Spartans squad that has struggled for defensive consistency. The Panthers won the January meeting by 20 points, leveraging a significant rebounding advantage and efficient shooting. For Upstate, containing Anderson and finding a way to generate easier baskets against a stout High Point defense will be critical. The Spartans will need another high-level performance from Gregory and forward Mason Bendinger, who added 25 points and six rebounds in the overtime win. A victory would solidify High Point’s hold on first place in the conference standings as the regular season enters its final weeks. For South Carolina Upstate, it represents a prime opportunity to secure a signature win and improve its seeding for the upcoming Big South tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Thursday at the G.B. Hodge Center.
