WILMINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging UNC Wilmington squad will look to protect its home court and solidify its Colonial Athletic Association standing when it hosts an Elon team seeking a season-defining upset on Thursday, Feb. 12. The Seahawks (20-4) enter Trask Coliseum with one of the nation’s top records, having won 10 of their last 12 games. Their most recent outing was a 76-64 road victory at College of Charleston on Monday, led by guard Greedy Williams’ 16 points. Williams has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 13.7 points and 4.3 assists over his last seven contests. Conversely, the Elon Phoenix (13-12) have stumbled, losing five of their last six games. They are coming off a 77-82 home loss to Drexel on Saturday, despite a career-high 25 points and seven rebounds from forward Isaac Harrell. Harrell’s production has been volatile, but his scoring outburst shows the potential to challenge UNCW’s defense. The matchup pits Elon’s offensive focus, led by Harrell and recent double-double performer Chandler Cuthrell, against a disciplined UNCW team that has held opponents under 70 points in three of its last five wins. The Seahawks’ balance is key; in the win over Charleston, Patrick Wessler (15 points) and Christian May (14 points) provided crucial support behind Williams. UNCW won the first meeting this season, 87-78, on Dec. 29 in Wilmington. The teams will conclude their regular-season series in Elon on March 3. For the Phoenix, a victory would be a monumental resume boost and could reverse their late-season slide. For the Seahawks, it is a necessary step to maintain their position atop the conference as they navigate a favorable stretch of home games. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
