GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — Two Southern Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the UNC Greensboro Spartans host the Virginia Military Institute Keydets at Greensboro Coliseum. The Spartans (10-15) enter on a modest two-game winning streak, including a 67-64 road victory at Furman last Sunday. Forward Justin Neely powered that win with 24 points and 13 rebounds, continuing a dominant stretch. Over his last five games, Neely is averaging 22.2 points and 9.2 rebounds, establishing himself as UNCG’s primary offensive force. VMI (6-19) looks to snap a nine-game losing skid, its most recent a 87-70 home loss to East Tennessee State on Feb. 7. The Keydets’ last win came on Jan. 3. Guard Tan Yildizoglu has been a bright spot during the slump, averaging 12.1 points and 5.4 assists over his last eight contests. He scored 18 points in the first meeting against UNCG this season. That Jan. 21 matchup in Lexington, Virginia, saw the Spartans prevail 85-78. Neely led all scorers with 22 points for UNCG, while Yildizoglu’s 18 paced the Keydets. VMI has not won in Greensboro since the 2019-20 season. Both teams have struggled in conference play, with UNCG sitting at 5-7 in the SoCon and VMI at 1-11. The game represents a critical opportunity for the Spartans to build consistency and for the Keydets to find a rare road victory. Following this matchup, UNCG will host Wofford on Saturday, while VMI returns home to face Furman the same day. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
