GREENVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two American Athletic Conference men’s basketball teams seeking to halt extended slides will meet Wednesday when the East Carolina Pirates host the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners at Williams Arena. East Carolina (7-16, 2-8 AAC) has lost four of its last five, including a 73-81 home defeat to Temple on Saturday. The Pirates’ recent struggles have come despite strong play from forward Giovanni Emejuru, who is averaging a double-double over his last four games. He posted 10 points and 14 rebounds against the Owls. Guard Jordan Riley, who erupted for a career-high 32 points in that loss, provides a scoring spark alongside him. Texas-San Antonio (4-19, 0-10) enters on a 10-game losing streak, most recently falling 58-81 to North Texas. The Roadrunners are still searching for their first conference win. Their hopes often rest with versatile forward Baboucarr Njie, who has shown flashes of dominance. Njie recorded a 25-point, 10-rebound, five-block performance against Temple on Jan. 24 and is a consistent defensive presence, registering multiple blocks in six of his last seven contests. The matchup pits East Carolina’s interior anchor, Emejuru, against UTSA’s two-way threat in Njie. The Pirates will look to exploit their home court advantage, where they earned one of their two AAC wins this season against North Texas last month. UTSA, conversely, has found wins elusive both at home and on the road during conference play, often struggling to keep pace offensively. This game begins a critical stretch for both programs aiming to build momentum before the conference tournament. Following this contest, East Carolina travels to Rice on Saturday.
