TULSA, Okla. (Interstat) — A surging Tulsa team looks to rebound and maintain its grip on the American Athletic Conference when it hosts UAB on Wednesday night at the Donald Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane (20-4), coming off a rare 80-74 road loss to South Florida that snapped a seven-game winning streak, will face a UAB squad they dominated just over three weeks ago. Tulsa rolled to a 99-77 victory in Birmingham on Jan. 18, part of a strong start that has them in the conference title hunt. UAB (15-9) arrives having won three of its last four, including a 71-65 home win over Rice on Sunday. In that game, forward Evan Chatman posted a monster double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds. The Blazers will need a similar effort from Chatman on the glass to combat a potent Tulsa lineup. Tulsa is led by guard Ade Popoola, who scored 24 points in the loss to South Florida. Popoola was a key contributor in the first meeting with UAB, finishing with six points, six rebounds and three assists. The Blazers have shown resilience on the road recently, with wins at North Texas and UTSA in late January. Containing Tulsa’s offensive balance, which features four players averaging double figures, will be their primary challenge. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. Following this matchup, Tulsa travels to Wichita State on Saturday, while UAB hosts Tulane on Sunday.
