Preview: Jacksonville Dolphins at Stetson Hatters DELAND, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt slides in the standings will meet Wednesday when the Jacksonville Dolphins visit the Stetson Hatters in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup at Edmunds Center. Both squads enter with losing streaks and nearly identical records in what has been a difficult season for each. Jacksonville (9-16) has lost three straight, most recently an 87-73 defeat at West Georgia on Saturday. Stetson (8-17) has dropped its last two, including a 100-88 road loss to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. The game will feature a matchup of two of the conference’s top recent scorers. Jacksonville will lean on guard Jaylen Jones, who is coming off a 19-point, 4-rebound, 4-assist performance in the loss to West Georgia. Over his last three games, Jones is averaging 12.7 points. Stetson counters with guard Ethan Copeland, who has been on a scoring tear. He poured in 23 points with 4 assists against Eastern Kentucky and is averaging 20.3 points over his last four contests. His backcourt mate, Daniel Macgregor, is also coming off a strong all-around game with 19 points and 5 assists. Defensive consistency has been an issue for both clubs. During their three-game skid, the Dolphins have allowed an average of 82.7 points per game. The Hatters have been even more porous lately, surrendering 96 points per game in their two consecutive losses. The teams have navigated similar paths in conference play, with each securing a win over North Florida and struggling against the league’s top half. They will meet again in just over two weeks, on Feb. 26 in Jacksonville. For now, Wednesday’s contest represents a critical opportunity for either team to gain momentum in the final weeks of the regular season. The Hatters will look to protect their home court, where they are 5-6 this season, while the Dolphins aim to snap their road losing streak and find a formula to slow Copeland’s hot hand. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
