CULLOWHEE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the Southern Conference will meet Wednesday when the Western Carolina Catamounts host The Citadel Bulldogs at Ramsey Center. Both teams enter with struggling overall records. The Citadel is 9-16, while Western Carolina sits at 8-15. Their only previous meeting this season was an overtime thriller on Jan. 10, which the Bulldogs won 79-77 in Charleston. The Citadel arrives with confidence from a 78-71 road victory at Chattanooga on Saturday. Sola Adebisi led the way with 18 points and five rebounds. The junior guard has been a key variable for the Bulldogs, showing high-ceiling performances like a 22-point outing against Furman on Jan. 21, but also quieter nights. His consistency will be pivotal for a Citadel team that has won three of its last five. Western Carolina looks to snap a three-game skid, most recently a 77-66 loss at Wofford. Samuel Dada, a forward, has been a steady interior presence. He pulled down nine rebounds in that loss and has shown flashes of scoring and shot-blocking, including a 13-point, two-assist effort in a win over East Tennessee State on Jan. 14. The matchup features two offenses that have found recent success. The Citadel has scored 78 or more points in three of its last four wins. Western Carolina averaged 84 points in its two victories prior to its current losing streak. Defense may determine the outcome; both teams have allowed opponents to score freely during losses. The Bulldogs have shown resilience in close games, with three overtime wins in conference play since Jan. 10. The Catamounts, meanwhile, have endured narrow defeats, including a three-point loss at UNC Greensboro last week. Wednesday’s contest is the start of a critical final stretch for both teams ahead of the Southern Conference tournament. Following this game, The Citadel returns home to face Mercer on Saturday. Western Carolina hits the road for a rematch with Chattanooga on the same day. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST at the 7,826-seat Ramsey Center.
