Preview: Bowling Green Falcons at Northern Illinois Huskies DEKALB, Ill. (Interstat) — The Bowling Green Falcons look to rebound from a lopsided non-conference loss when they visit the struggling Northern Illinois Huskies in a Mid-American Conference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday afternoon at the Convocation Center. Bowling Green (14-10) enters having lost four of its last five games, including a 91-54 rout at Arkansas State on Saturday. The Falcons, however, have been more competitive in MAC play and sit above .500 overall, presenting a significant challenge for a Northern Illinois squad that is 8-14. The Huskies are coming off a narrow 75-74 road win at Georgia State, a positive result for a team that has lost eight of its last 12. Northern Illinois has found wins hard to come by, especially against conference foes with stronger records. The game features a compelling backcourt matchup between two of the MAC’s top scorers. Bowling Green will rely heavily on junior guard Javontae Campbell, who is averaging 21.4 points and 5.9 assists over his last seven games. Campbell is coming off a 31-point, 7-assist performance in a loss to Buffalo on Jan. 27 and has scored 20 or more points in five of those contests. Northern Illinois will counter with sophomore guard Makhai Valentine, who has provided explosive scoring at times. Valentine dropped 27 points in a win over Massachusetts on Jan. 17 and scored 23 in the recent victory at Georgia State. His consistency will be key for the Huskies’ offense. For Bowling Green, finding secondary scoring behind Campbell is crucial. In the loss to Arkansas State, only Sam Towns (10 points) joined Campbell in double figures. The Falcons will need better production from their frontcourt to complement their star guard. Northern Illinois must defend its home court to keep its slim conference tournament positioning hopes alive. The Huskies have shown resilience in close games, with three of their last five losses coming by six points or fewer. This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the teams this season. The Falcons have lost three straight road games, while the Huskies are 5-5 at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST Wednesday. Following this game, Bowling Green hosts Toledo on Saturday, while Northern Illinois travels to face Central Michigan.
