Preview: American Eagles at Lehigh Mountain Hawks FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa. (Interstat) â Two teams looking to halt slides in Patriot League play will meet Wednesday when the American Eagles visit the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at Stabler Arena. American (13-12) arrives having lost four straight, including a 73-82 defeat at Navy on Saturday and a heartbreaking 59-60 home loss to Bucknell on Feb. 4. The Eagles have struggled to close out tight games, with three of their last four losses coming by three points or fewer. Lehigh (10-15) has dropped two consecutive contests, falling 67-76 at Holy Cross on Saturday and 84-89 in double-overtime at Loyola Maryland on Feb. 4. The Mountain Hawks have shown a propensity for dramatic finishes, with three of their last six games requiring overtime. A key matchup will feature Americanâs Greg Jones against Lehighâs Hank Alvey. Jones, a consistent scorer, is coming off a 17-point, 9-rebound performance against Navy and has scored in double figures in seven straight games. Alvey has been on a scoring tear for Lehigh, pouring in 28 points against Holy Cross and 27 at Loyola Maryland in his last two outings. In their last game, Americanâs Madden Collins (14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) and Julen Iturbe (15 points, 4 assists) provided support for Jones. Lehighâs Nasir Whitlock recorded a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists) alongside Alveyâs big day in the loss to Holy Cross. The Eagles won the seasonâs first meeting, 65-64, on Jan. 3 in Washington, D.C. Wednesdayâs rematch offers Lehigh a chance for home-court revenge and both squads an opportunity to build momentum for the final stretch of the conference schedule.
