Preview: Marquette Golden Eagles at Villanova Wildcats BRYN MAWR, Pa. (Interstat) — The Villanova Wildcats, riding a four-game winning streak and sitting firmly in the NCAA tournament picture, host the struggling Marquette Golden Eagles in a Big East Conference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at The Pavilion. Villanova (18-5 overall) has found its rhythm in February, most recently defeating Georgetown 80-73 on the road Saturday. The Wildcats are led by guard Acaden Lewis, who is coming off a career-high 26-point, six-assist performance. Over his last three games, Lewis is averaging 16.3 points and 6.7 assists, providing a dynamic spark for one of the league’s top offenses. Marquette (9-15) snapped a three-game skid with a 70-55 home victory over Butler on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are led by guard Chase Ross, who scored 19 points with five assists in that win. Ross has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 15.1 points over his last seven contests. However, Marquette has struggled on the road, losing five of its last six away from home. This is the second meeting between the teams this season. On Jan. 10 in Milwaukee, Villanova escaped with a 76-73 victory. The Wildcats have won the last three head-to-head meetings. For Villanova, a victory is essential to maintain its position near the top of the conference standings ahead of a challenging road trip to Creighton on Saturday. The Wildcats’ balance is key; in the win over Georgetown, Duke Brennan added a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double while Tyler Perkins contributed 15 points and eight rebounds. Marquette, which has lost eight of its last 12, needs a signature road win to salvage its season. Beyond Ross, the Golden Eagles will rely on Adrien Stevens (18 points vs. Butler) and Nigel James (16 points) to provide supplementary scoring against Villanova’s stout defense. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Villanova will look to sweep the regular-season series, while Marquette aims to build on its most complete performance in weeks and spring a critical upset.
