Preview: Fresno State at Utah State LOGAN, Utah (Interstat) — The surging and eighth-ranked Utah State Aggies look to continue their dominant season when they host the Fresno State Bulldogs in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday afternoon at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Utah State (20-3, 9-1 MW) has won eight of its last nine games and sits atop the conference standings. The Aggies are coming off a tight 85-83 road victory at Wyoming on Saturday, powered by a career-high 27 points from sophomore guard Mason Falslev. Falslev, a player to watch, is averaging 19.3 points over his last three contests and leads a balanced Aggies attack that ranks among the nation’s most efficient offenses. Fresno State (11-11, 5-4) arrives in Nibley seeking consistency and a signature road win. The Bulldogs have alternated wins and losses over their last six games, most recently falling 69-59 at Nevada. Their success often hinges on the performance of dynamic guard DeShawn Gory, who scored 31 points in a loss at New Mexico on Jan. 21 and is averaging 18.2 points in conference play. The Bulldogs will need Gory at his best to challenge a stout Utah State defense on its home floor, where the Aggies are 11-1 this season. Fresno State’s offense has shown flashes, including a 98-point outing in a win over UNLV, but has also been held under 65 points four times in MW play. This is the second meeting between the teams this season. Utah State won the first matchup 72-63 in Fresno on Dec. 30, part of the Bulldogs’ current three-game losing streak against the Aggies. For Fresno State, containing Falslev and the Aggies’ perimeter shooting will be paramount. Utah State, which leads the MW in scoring margin, will focus on disrupting Gory and forcing other Bulldogs to beat them. Fresno State’s David Douglas and Jake Heidbreder, who combined for 26 points in the loss to Nevada, are key secondary scorers. The game tips off at 7 p.m. MST Tuesday. Utah State enters as a heavy favorite, but a Fresno State upset could reshuffle the upper tier of the Mountain West standings.
