MACOMB, Ill. (Interstat) — Two Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Tuesday when the Eastern Illinois Panthers visit the Western Illinois Leathernecks at Western Hall. Eastern Illinois (10-15) enters with a slight edge in the standings and confidence from a 60-54 road win at Tennessee Tech on Saturday. The Panthers have won two of their last three games. Western Illinois (4-21) looks to snap a seven-game losing streak, having last won on Jan. 10. The Leathernecks are coming off an 83-56 loss at Tennessee State on Saturday. The Panthers won the season’s first meeting 57-55 in Charleston on Jan. 13. In that game, Eastern Illinois guard Zion Fruster scored eight points and dished four assists, while Western Illinois forward Lucas Lorenzen led his team with 13 points. Fruster, a key player for the Panthers, is coming off a 20-point performance in the win over Tennessee Tech. Over his last five games, he is averaging 14.2 points. Lorenzen has been a bright spot for the struggling Leathernecks, averaging 18.1 points over his last seven contests. He scored a season-high 26 points in a narrow loss to Morehead State on Jan. 22 and poured in 24 points in the recent loss to Tennessee State. Both teams have struggled offensively this season, setting the stage for what could be another defensive battle. Eastern Illinois has held opponents under 60 points in three of its last five games. Western Illinois has been held under 70 points in 10 of its last 11 outings. Following this matchup, Western Illinois will host Arkansas-Little Rock on Thursday. Eastern Illinois’ next game is at home against Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST Tuesday.
