NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Stephen F. Austin looks to continue its dominant season when it hosts a Texas A&M-Commerce team seeking a rare winning streak in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Monday night. The Lumberjacks (21-3) enter William R. Johnson Coliseum as one of the nation’s hottest mid-major teams, having won 10 of their last 11 games. Their only loss in that stretch was a two-point road defeat at McNeese State on Jan. 5. Stephen F. Austin is coming off an 84-74 victory over Lamar on Saturday, led by 20 points from Lateef Patrick and a near double-double of 19 points and eight assists from guard Keon Thompson. Thompson has been the engine for the Lumberjacks’ success, averaging 20.4 points over his last seven contests. His scoring prowess, combined with efficient distribution, makes him the focal point of a potent offense. The visiting Lions (10-15), meanwhile, are coming off consecutive wins for the first time since late December, including a gritty 52-48 defensive victory over Northwestern State on Saturday. Forward Noah Pagotto has been a consistent performer, scoring in double figures in eight of his last nine games. He posted 12 points and three blocks in the latest win and had 14 points in the road victory at Northwestern State last Wednesday. History heavily favors the home team. In the only meeting this season on Dec. 29, Stephen F. Austin routed Texas A&M-Commerce 75-48 in Commerce. The Lumberjacks’ defense stifled the Lions, holding them to 30.9% shooting from the field. For Texas A&M-Commerce to pull the upset, it will need to replicate its recent defensive intensity against a high-powered Stephen F. Austin attack averaging over 80 points per game during its current three-game win streak. Controlling the tempo and limiting turnovers will be critical for the Lions. Stephen F. Austin will aim to leverage its home-court advantage and superior record to avoid a letdown before a key two-game road trip next week. The Lumberjacks have lost only once at home this season. Tipoff is set for Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
