Preview: Islanders Visit Privateers in Southland Conference Clash NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — A pair of Southland Conference teams looking to build momentum for the final stretch of the season will meet Monday night when the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders visit the New Orleans Privateers at Kiefer Lakefront Arena. The Islanders (13-11 overall) enter with a slight edge in the standings and are coming off an 83-76 road victory at Nicholls State on Saturday. Guard Nicholas Shogbonyo, a key player to watch, scored 17 points in that win. He has been a consistent offensive threat, averaging 14.4 points over his last eight games, including a 20-point performance in a win at Incarnate Word last month. New Orleans (11-14) seeks to rebound from a 95-76 home loss to Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. Despite the defeat, guard Jakevion Buckley was a bright spot, pouring in 25 points. Buckley has been the engine for the Privateers’ offense, showcasing high-level distribution and scoring. He has tallied at least 18 points and six assists in three of his last seven contests. The Islanders won the first meeting this season decisively, 83-69 at home on Dec. 31, 2025. They will aim for a regular-season sweep behind a defense that has held opponents under 65 points in four of their 13 wins. For New Orleans, protecting home court is critical as they navigate a challenging backend of the schedule. Their offense runs through Buckley, but they will need a stronger defensive effort after allowing 95 points in their last outing. Tipoff is set for Monday night in New Orleans. The Islanders’ next game is at home against Lamar on Feb. 14, while the Privateers hit the road to face Houston Christian the same day.
