PEORIA, Ill. (Interstat) — A surging Belmont team aims to continue its dominance of the Missouri Valley Conference on Monday when the 22-3 Bruins visit Bradley at Carver Arena. The Bruins, boasting one of the nation’s top records, have won nine straight games since a one-point loss to Southern Illinois on Jan. 4. Their most recent victory was a 68-62 road win at Illinois-Chicago on Friday. Belmont’s potent offense has scored 103 points in two of its last four contests. Bradley (16-9), meanwhile, looks to rebound from a deflating 61-49 loss at Northern Iowa on Friday where the Braves shot just 32.7% from the field. The Braves have alternated wins and losses over their last five games, seeking consistency as the conference race intensifies. The matchup features a compelling backcourt duel. Belmont is led by guard Tyler Lundblade, who is averaging 18.4 points over his last five games, including a 24-point performance against Illinois-Chicago. For Bradley, guard Jaquan Johnson provides a dynamic scoring and playmaking threat. He erupted for 35 points and 7 assists in a Jan. 13 overtime win at Evansville and scored 14 in the loss to Northern Iowa. This game is a rematch of a Jan. 1 meeting in Nashville, where Belmont secured an 88-78 victory over the Braves. In that game, the Bruins’ efficient offense proved too much for Bradley. A Bradley victory would provide a crucial Quadrant 1 resume boost and halt Belmont’s lengthy win streak. The Bruins, however, have shown remarkable poise in close games, winning their last three road contests by an average of just 4.3 points. Monday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on the MVC Television Network. Following this game, Belmont hosts Northern Iowa on Thursday, while Bradley travels to face Southern Illinois next Sunday.
