DAVIDSON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Davidson Wildcats will look to sweep the season series and halt a brief skid when they host the struggling Loyola Chicago Ramblers in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball game Friday night at Belk Arena. Davidson (13-9, 4-5 A-10) enters having lost two of its last three, including a 91-82 home loss to Saint Louis on Tuesday. The Wildcats had previously won three straight conference games. Loyola Chicago (6-18, 2-7) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 71-61 home victory over La Salle on Tuesday. The Wildcats won the first meeting this season, 79-64, in Chicago on Jan. 7. In that game, Davidson built a 15-point halftime lead and controlled the second half. A key matchup will feature two of the league’s top scorers. Davidson is led by guard Josh Scovens, who is averaging 16.2 points in conference play. He scored 17 points with three assists against Saint Louis and has reached double figures in eight straight games. For the Ramblers, forward Joshua Ola-Joseph has been a bright spot during a difficult season. He is coming off a 16-point performance against La Salle and has scored 20 or more points three times in A-10 play, including a 20-point effort at George Washington on Jan. 10. Davidson has been strong at home this season, posting a 9-3 record at Belk Arena. Loyola Chicago is 1-9 in true road games, with its lone win coming at Rhode Island on Dec. 31. The Wildcats’ offensive efficiency, which ranks near the top of the conference, will challenge a Loyola Chicago defense that has allowed 80 or more points in five of its last nine games. The Ramblers will need another efficient outing from Ola-Joseph and support from guards like Justin Moore, who added 12 points in the win over La Salle, to pull off the road upset. Friday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. Davidson will visit Dayton next Sunday, while Loyola Chicago hosts Saint Louis on Feb. 13.
