Preview: Brown Bears at Yale Bulldogs NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Interstat) — A struggling Brown team visits Ivy League front-runner Yale on Friday night, with the Bulldogs looking to rebound from a narrow loss and continue their dominance in the series. The game at Payne Whitney Gymnasium pits two teams heading in opposite directions. Yale (15-4) sits near the top of the conference standings, while Brown (6-13) seeks to snap a five-game losing streak. The Bulldogs won the season’s first meeting handily, 70-53, in Providence on Jan. 5. Yale enters after a tough 67-65 home loss to Harvard last Saturday, which snapped a four-game winning streak. Trevor Mullin led the Bulldogs with 21 points in that defeat. The guard has been a consistent scorer, averaging 13.1 points per game this season. He scored 13 points in Yale’s 83-68 win over Dartmouth the night before the Harvard loss. Brown is coming off a 77-70 overtime defeat to Dartmouth, its fifth consecutive loss. The Bears’ hopes largely rest on the shoulders of high-volume scorer Landon Lewis. The guard is averaging 19.2 points per game and is coming off a stretch where he scored 30 points against Harvard and 21 against Dartmouth in consecutive games last weekend. Beyond Lewis, Brown has struggled for consistent production. Jeremiah Jenkins, who had 10 points and six assists against Dartmouth, is a key secondary playmaker. Yale’s balance presents a major challenge. In the Jan. 5 win over Brown, the Bulldogs held the Bears to 32.8% shooting from the field. Nick Townsend, who scored 18 points against Harvard, and Casey Simmons provide complementary scoring alongside Mullin. The Bulldogs have been strong at home, boasting a 9-1 record in New Haven this season. Brown is 1-7 in true road games. Friday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. Yale’s next game is at Howard on Monday. Brown does not play again until visiting Harvard on Feb. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
