Vermont Looks to Rebound Against Struggling Maine in America East Clash VEAZIE, Maine (Interstat) — The Vermont Catamounts aim to bounce back from a narrow loss and solidify their standing in the America East Conference when they visit the Maine Black Bears on Thursday night. Vermont (14-9, 5-3 America East) enters the Cross Insurance Center coming off a 79-77 home defeat to NJIT on Saturday, a game in which Sean Blake scored 23 points. The Catamounts had won three straight prior to that setback. Maine (5-17, 2-6) seeks to end a two-game skid after a 91-77 loss at UMass Lowell, also on Saturday. The matchup features two of the conference’s top scorers in a rematch of Vermont’s 67-62 home win on Jan. 15. Vermont’s Sean Blake, who had 17 points and six assists in that first meeting, is averaging 16.4 points over his last five games. Maine will counter with Logan Carey, who is coming off a 28-point performance against UMass Lowell and averaged 21 points in two games last week. Vermont has dominated the recent series, winning the last 11 meetings. The Catamounts’ defense, which allows a conference-best 64.2 points per game, will be tested by Carey and a Maine offense that scored 79 points in a win over Binghamton on Jan. 24. For Maine, the task is to protect home court and find consistency after alternating wins and losses over its past six games. The Black Bears are 4-6 at the Cross Insurance Center this season. Vermont, which has wins in five of its last seven contests, continues a stretch of playing four of five games on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Vermont hosts New Hampshire on Saturday, while Maine travels to face Bryant.
