Preview: Stonehill Skyhawks at Fairleigh Dickinson Knights HACKENSACK, N.J. (Interstat) — A pair of teams seeking momentum in the Northeast Conference will meet Thursday when the Stonehill Skyhawks visit the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights at Rothman Center. Both squads enter with sub-.500 overall records. Stonehill (8-14) has won three of its last four, while Fairleigh Dickinson (7-16) looks to snap a three-game skid. The matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 29 thriller, which Stonehill won 58-57 at home. Davante Hackett led the Skyhawks with 12 points in that victory. The sophomore forward is Stonehill’s player to watch, coming off a dominant 22-point, 15-rebound performance in a 65-54 win at Le Moyne on Saturday. Over his last eight games, Hackett is averaging 14.1 points and 6.6 rebounds. Fairleigh Dickinson will counter with guard Joey Niesman, who scored 23 points and dished six assists in a 75-72 overtime loss at Wagner last Saturday. Niesman averages a team-leading 16.1 points in conference play and will be central to the Knights’ offense as they seek to avenge the one-point loss from a week prior. The Knights have struggled defensively, allowing 74.3 points per game, which ranks near the bottom of the NEC. Stonehill’s offense, averaging just 64.2 points, will look to exploit that weakness behind Hackett and Ethan Meuser, who notched a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) against Le Moyne. Fairleigh Dickinson holds a 4-5 record at home this season, while Stonehill is 2-9 on the road. A win would provide a key conference victory for either team in the tightly packed NEC standings. Following this game, Stonehill travels to face Long Island on Saturday. Fairleigh Dickinson remains at home to host Mercyhurst that same day. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
