Preview: Northern Colorado Bears at Weber State Wildcats OGDEN, Utah (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference teams heading in opposite directions meet Thursday when the Northern Colorado Bears visit the Weber State Wildcats at the Dee Events Center. Northern Colorado (13-10, 4-6 Big Sky) arrives with momentum from a 74-71 home win over Eastern Washington last Saturday, snapping a five-game conference skid. The Bears had dropped six of seven before that victory. Weber State (11-12, 5-5), meanwhile, looks to halt a slide after a 104-90 road loss to Sacramento State on Monday. The Wildcats have lost three of their last four games. The matchup is a rematch of a Jan. 10 meeting in Greeley, which Weber State won 76-71. In that game, Wildcats guard Tijan Saine scored 17 points in just 22 minutes, while Northern Colorado’s Brock Wisne had 17 points. Wisne, a key figure for the Bears, is averaging 15.6 points over his last eight games. He nearly posted a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds in the win over Eastern Washington. Saine has been on a scoring tear for Weber State, averaging 23.6 points over his last five contests. He poured in a season-high 28 points and dished eight assists in a win over Idaho State on Jan. 31, followed by 22 points and six assists in the loss at Sacramento State. Northern Colorado’s recent success has been fueled by improved balance. Against Eastern Washington, Ring Nyeri led all scorers with 23 points and Quinn Denker facilitated the offense with eight assists to complement Wisne’s all-around effort. Weber State will need more defensive resistance after allowing an average of 94.3 points in its last three losses. The Wildcats’ offense, led by Saine and supported by Malek Gomma (16 points vs. Sac State) and Nigel Burris (17 points), has kept them competitive. The Bears seek their first road conference win since Dec. 28 at Colorado and aim to even the season series. A win would also pull them even with Weber State in the conference standings. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST Thursday in Ogden.
