BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — The UAB Blazers, riding a three-game winning streak, will look to solidify their standing in the American Athletic Conference when they host the struggling Memphis Tigers on Thursday afternoon at Bartow Arena. UAB (14-8) enters the matchup after a 72-68 road victory at North Texas on Jan. 31. The Blazers have found consistency behind versatile guard Chance Westry, who is averaging 14.3 points and 5.5 assists over his last six games. In the win over North Texas, Westry scored a team-high 18 points and dished four assists. Memphis (10-11) seeks to halt a skid that has seen it lose three of its last four, including a narrow 78-76 home loss to Tulane on Sunday. The Tigers have been led by forward Aaron Bradshaw, who is averaging 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds over his last three contests. Bradshaw posted 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Tulane. The game marks the first of a home-and-home series between the teams this month, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 22 in Memphis. UAB holds a clear advantage in the standings, but the Tigers have shown flashes, including a 92-65 rout of Florida Atlantic on Jan. 29. For Memphis to pull the road upset, it will need to contain Westry’s playmaking and find scoring support beyond Bradshaw. Dug McDaniel, who had 13 points and four assists against Tulane, will be key in the backcourt. UAB’s defense, which allowed 99 points in a loss to Tulsa on Jan. 18, must tighten up against a Memphis team capable of offensive bursts. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
