Preview: Northern Kentucky at Detroit, Horizon League Men’s Basketball DETROIT (Interstat) — The Northern Kentucky Norse visit the Detroit Titans in a Horizon League men’s basketball matchup Friday at Calihan Hall, looking to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their standing in the conference. Northern Kentucky (13-8 overall) enters with a superior record but is seeking to rebound from an 88-80 road loss at Wright State last Saturday. The Norse previously handled Detroit with ease, securing a 96-71 victory at home on Jan. 15. Detroit (8-12) has lost three of its last four, most recently falling 95-87 to Oakland at home. The matchup features two of the league’s top individual performers. Northern Kentucky guard Dan Gherezgher is coming off a career-high 30-point effort in the loss to Wright State, where he played 38 minutes. Over his last seven games, he is averaging 15.7 points. Detroit will counter with forward Legend Geeter, who is playing his best basketball of the season. He nearly posted a double-double in the loss to Oakland, scoring 24 points and grabbing nine rebounds. In the Jan. 15 loss to the Norse, Geeter was limited to eight points in 21 minutes. For the Titans, reversing the result of the earlier meeting will require a significant defensive improvement. Northern Kentucky shot 56.7% from the field in the January win, led by a balanced attack that saw five players score in double figures. Detroit’s offense, paced by Geeter and guard Tyler Spratt (21 points vs. Oakland), has shown potency but has struggled with consistency. The Norse have proven strong on the road in conference play, with wins at Milwaukee and Bellarmine this season. Detroit is 6-4 at Calihan Hall this season. Following this game, Northern Kentucky travels to face Oakland on Feb. 1. Detroit begins a two-game road swing at Milwaukee on Feb. 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
