Preview: McNeese State Cowboys at Southeastern Louisiana Lions HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — A surging McNeese State squad looks to continue its dominant run through conference play when it visits struggling Southeastern Louisiana in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Tuesday night. The Cowboys (16-4) have won seven of their last eight games, including a commanding 82-63 victory over New Orleans on Saturday. Their only recent blemish was a narrow three-point road loss to Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 17. McNeese State already handled the Lions (6-14) this month, securing a 73-61 home win on Jan. 10. McNeese State is powered by forward Larry Johnson, who is coming off a spectacular performance. In the win over New Orleans, Johnson scored 26 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished five assists in just 26 minutes. Over his last seven games, he is averaging 18.1 points per contest. The Lions halted a six-game skid with a 67-61 home win against Nicholls State on Saturday. Guard Makhi Myles led the way with 13 points in that victory. In the earlier loss to McNeese State, Myles contributed 11 points. Southeastern Louisiana has found wins scarce, having lost 14 of its last 17 games overall. Defense has been a persistent issue; the Lions have allowed 73 or more points in five of their last seven outings. For McNeese State, consistency has been key. Since the calendar turned to January, the Cowboys have averaged 78.2 points per game in conference play while holding opponents to 66.6 points. Alongside Johnson, contributors like Garwey Dual and Jerrell Colbert provide balanced scoring and rebounding. The Lions will need a significant defensive improvement to contain the Cowboys’ efficient offense and avoid a season sweep. Tip-off is set for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at the University Center.
