Preview: Kansas State Wildcats at West Virginia Mountaineers STAR CITY, W.Va. (Interstat) ā Two Big 12 teams looking to steady themselves meet Tuesday night when the West Virginia Mountaineers host the Kansas State Wildcats at WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers (13-7 overall) return home after a difficult 88-53 road loss at Arizona on Saturday. West Virginia had won three of its previous four conference games prior to the defeat in Tucson, including an 86-75 victory over then-Kansas on Jan. 10. Coach Darian DeVries will look for a rebound performance, particularly on offense after the teamās season-low scoring output. Kansas State (10-10) arrives seeking to end a five-game skid, most recently an 86-62 home loss to Kansas. The Wildcatsā struggles have come despite stellar individual play from guard PJ Haggerty. The sophomore is averaging 24.1 points over his last seven games, including a 34-point effort in a win over Utah on Jan. 20. His scoring burden has been heavy for a team that has allowed 84.4 points per game during its losing streak. West Virginiaās Chance Moore provides a key perimeter threat. The junior guard is coming off a team-high 12 points in the loss to Arizona and scored 17 in a road game at Iowa State earlier this month. His production off the bench will be vital for a Mountaineers squad that prides itself on defense, ranking third in the Big 12 in scoring defense at 66.2 points allowed per game in conference play. The matchup pits Kansas Stateās high-volume scorer in Haggerty against West Virginiaās structured defense. The Wildcats have lost three Big 12 games by three points or fewer this month, indicating an ability to compete that hasnāt yet translated to wins. West Virginia is 9-2 at home this season. This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the schools this season. They will meet again in Manhattan, Kansas, on March 3. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
