DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging Duke team looks to continue its dominance and avenge its only loss when it hosts Louisville in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball showdown Monday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils (18-1, 8-0 ACC), winners of 12 straight since a one-point non-conference loss to Texas Tech in December, are led by national player of the year frontrunner Cameron Boozer. The sophomore forward is averaging 24.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, coming off a 32-point, 9-rebound performance in a 90-69 rout of Wake Forest on Saturday. Boozer torched Louisville for 27 points in the teams’ first meeting this season, a 84-73 Duke win in Kentucky on Jan. 6. The 18th-ranked Cardinals (14-5, 5-3) aim to snap a two-game skid in the series and hand Duke its first conference loss. They are led by guard Mikel Brown, who scored 20 points with six assists in an 85-71 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday. Louisville’s offense, averaging 81.2 points per game, will be tested by a Duke defense allowing just 66.2 points per contest. Since the loss to Duke, Louisville has gone 3-1, including a 100-59 road win at Pittsburgh, but also suffered a home loss to Virginia. The Cardinals will need a balanced effort beyond Brown; forward Sananda Fru posted a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) against Virginia Tech. Duke’s streak includes six consecutive ACC road wins. Their offense has been explosive, scoring 80 or more points in nine games this season. Beyond Boozer, Duke has received consistent contributions from center Patrick Ngongba, who had 13 points and seven rebounds in limited minutes against Wake Forest. The matchup pits one of the nation’s most efficient offenses in Duke against a Louisville team capable of high-scoring outputs. The Cardinals must improve their perimeter defense and rebound effectively to counter Duke’s size and offensive versatility in one of college basketball’s most hostile environments. Monday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. Following the game, Duke travels to Virginia Tech on Saturday, while Louisville hosts SMU.
