Preview: Howard Looks to Rebound Against Struggling Coppin State in MEAC Matchup BALTIMORE (Interstat) — The Howard Bison aim to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss when they visit the struggling Coppin State Eagles in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Monday at the Coppin State Physical Education Complex. Howard (12-9, 4-2 MEAC) enters off a narrow 78-77 home defeat to Morgan State on Saturday, a game decided by a single point. The Bison had won three of their previous four conference contests prior to that setback. Coppin State (3-18, 1-5) seeks to end a five-game skid, having last won on Jan. 3 at Delaware State. The Eagles are coming off a 103-76 road loss to Norfolk State on Saturday and have lost 10 of their last 11 games overall. A key matchup will feature Howard’s Cedric Taylor against Coppin State’s Hassan Perkins. Taylor is coming off a dominant 29-point, six-rebound performance in the loss to Morgan State, averaging 17.1 points over his last seven games. Perkins has provided scoring bursts for the Eagles, including a 15-point effort at Norfolk State and a 16-point game against South Carolina State earlier this month. Howard’s offense, which averages 73.2 points per game, will test a Coppin State defense that allows a nation-worst 88.2 points per contest. The Eagles have surrendered 100 or more points four times this season. The Bison have found balance behind Taylor, with Bryce Harris posting a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double against Morgan State. Coppin State’s Demariontay Hall and Hussain Williams each added 16 points in the loss to Norfolk State. This game begins a critical stretch for both teams in MEAC play. Howard will look to solidify its position near the top of the conference standings, while Coppin State searches for a rare home victory to build momentum. The teams will meet again in Washington, D.C., on March 2 to conclude the regular-season series.
