Indiana (12-7 overall) arrives having lost four consecutive conference games, most recently an 86-72 defeat at Michigan on Tuesday. The Hoosiers’ offense has struggled during the skid, failing to reach 80 points in three of the four losses. Guard Tucker DeVries, a key transfer, leads Indiana. He scored 15 points in the loss to Michigan and had 17 points and six rebounds in a close defeat to Nebraska on Jan. 10. His consistency will be crucial for a Hoosiers team seeking its first league win since Jan. 7. Rutgers (9-10) has also found conference play difficult, dropping three of its last four. The Scarlet Knights fell 68-62 at Iowa on Tuesday despite 17 points from forward Darren Buchanan. Buchanan has been a bright spot, averaging 13.3 points over his last three contests and providing a physical presence inside. The Scarlet Knights have shown resilience at home, with overtime victories over Northwestern and Oregon this month. Defensive intensity at Louis Brown Center will be their foundation against an Indiana team prone to recent scoring droughts. Historically, this matchup has been tightly contested, often decided by which team can control the tempo and secure key stops in the final minutes. For Indiana, breaking its losing streak requires better shot selection and limiting turnovers. For Rutgers, generating consistent offense outside of Buchanan’s efforts is paramount. Friday’s game is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this regular season. Indiana next hosts Purdue on Jan. 27, while Rutgers will welcome Michigan State on the same date.
