NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A swift rematch with ASUN Conference positioning at stake is set for Friday afternoon when the Lipscomb Bisons host the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Allen Arena. The Bisons (13-7, 4-1 ASUN) edged the Eagles (8-12, 2-4) 84-77 in Fort Myers just two weeks ago on Jan. 10. That victory sparked Lipscomb’s current four-game conference win streak, which they extended with a 79-74 overtime victory over Stetson on Thursday. Florida Gulf Coast, meanwhile, looks to rebound from an 83-62 road loss at Austin Peay on Thursday, its third defeat in the last four games. Lipscomb’s success is fueled by forward Grant Asman, who is playing his best basketball of the season. He posted 18 points and six rebounds in the overtime win over Stetson and averaged 16.3 points over the last three games. In the first meeting with FGCU, Asman contributed 14 points and four rebounds. Florida Gulf Coast will counter with forward Isaiah Malone, a consistent interior force. Malone is coming off a 16-point performance in the loss to Austin Peay and has scored in double figures in six of his last seven contests. He was held to nine points in the first matchup against Lipscomb, a number the Eagles will need him to exceed to spring the road upset. The Eagles have struggled away from home, with their only true road win this season coming at North Alabama on Jan. 3. Lipscomb boasts a 9-1 record at Allen Arena this season, with the lone loss to a non-conference opponent. A Lipscomb win would solidify its hold near the top of the ASUN standings, while Florida Gulf Coast is in urgent need of a quality conference victory to stabilize its season. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
