MANHATTAN, Kan. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the heart of conference play will meet Tuesday night when the Utah Utes visit the Kansas State Wildcats at Bramlage Coliseum. Both teams enter with identical 9-9 overall records, each coming off a narrow result this past Saturday. Utah snapped a five-game skid with an 82-79 home victory over Texas Christian, while Kansas State fell to 0-6 in Big 12 play with a heartbreaking 83-84 road loss at Oklahoma State. The matchup will feature a compelling duel between two high-scoring guards. Utah’s Terrence Brown is averaging over 20 points per game during conference play, coming off a 26-point performance in the win over TCU. He has scored 16 or more points in seven consecutive games. Kansas State will counter with PJ Haggerty, who has been a consistent bright spot during the Wildcats’ losing streak. He logged 40 minutes and scored 21 points in the loss to Oklahoma State and is averaging 22.7 points over his last six contests. For Utah, the victory over TCU provided a critical respite after a challenging stretch. Don McHenry (12 points) and Kendyl Sanders (9 points) provided key support for Brown in that win. The Utes will look to build their first winning streak since late December. Kansas State’s struggles are underscored by its six consecutive losses, all within the rugged Big 12. Despite Haggerty’s efforts, the Wildcats have had difficulty closing games, with three of those six defeats coming by four points or fewer. Khamari McGriff and Nate Johnson, who each scored 14 points against Oklahoma State, will need to provide additional offensive production. The game represents a pivotal opportunity for both squads to climb toward .500 in league play and gain confidence before facing daunting upcoming schedules. Utah travels to face rival BYU next, while Kansas State prepares for a Sunflower Showdown against Kansas next Saturday. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Tuesday at Bramlage Coliseum.
