Preview: Texas Tech Visits Baylor in Big 12 Clash WACO, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Texas Tech looks to extend its winning streak when it visits a reeling Baylor team in a key Big 12 Conference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at the Ferrell Center. The Red Raiders (14-4, 4-1 Big 12) have won five of their last six, including an 84-71 victory over BYU last Saturday. They are powered by sophomore forward JT Toppin, who is averaging 24 points over his last three games, including a 31-point, 7-assist, 5-block performance in a win over Utah on Jan. 14. Baylor (11-6, 1-4), meanwhile, has dropped four of its last five, most recently an 80-62 loss at Kansas. The Bears have struggled offensively in conference play, failing to reach 70 points in three of their four losses. Guard Cameron Carr has been a bright spot, averaging 20.3 points over the last three contests. The matchup pits Texas Tech’s high-octane offense, which has scored 84 or more points in four of its last five wins, against a Baylor defense seeking stability. The Red Raiders’ backcourt of Christian Anderson and LeJuan Watts, who combined for 42 points against BYU, provides balance to Toppin’s interior dominance. Baylor will need more consistent production beyond Carr. Forward Tounde Yessoufou (20 points at Kansas) must provide secondary scoring, and the Bears must improve their ball security after committing 15 turnovers in the loss to the Jayhawks. Historically, games in this series have been tightly contested, with home court offering little guarantee. Texas Tech’s recent success has been built on the road, including a notable win at Colorado on Jan. 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Texas Tech’s next game is at home against Houston on Saturday. Baylor will host TCU on Saturday.
