Preview: New Haven Looks to Build Momentum Against Struggling Chicago State CHICAGO (Interstat) — A pair of teams seeking consistency will meet Monday when the New Haven Chargers visit the Chicago State Cougars in a non-conference men’s basketball game organized by the Northeast Conference. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST at Jones Convocation Center. New Haven (8-10) enters with a bit of confidence after an 80-74 home victory over Wagner on Saturday. The Chargers have alternated wins and losses over their last six games. Chicago State (2-16) continues to search for answers, mired in a five-game losing streak following a 72-57 home loss to Le Moyne on Saturday. The Cougars’ only wins this season came against St. Francis (Ill.) and Loyola Chicago. A key matchup will feature two of the league’s backcourt standouts. New Haven’s Andre Pasha is coming off a 16-point performance against Wagner and has been a focal point, averaging 12.3 points over his last seven contests. He scored 18 points in a loss at Central Connecticut on Jan. 4. Chicago State will rely heavily on CJ Ray, who has shouldered a major scoring load. Ray is averaging 16.3 points over his last four games, including a 27-point, five-rebound, four-assist effort in an overtime loss at Stonehill on Jan. 10. Despite their overall record, the Cougars have shown flashes, pushing Stonehill to overtime and battling Wagner close at home. New Haven, however, has been more competitive against common NEC foes, having defeated both Wagner and Stonehill this month. This contest begins a pivotal stretch for both squads as they navigate the conference schedule. New Haven will look to secure a road win before returning home for two games next weekend. Chicago State aims to halt its skid before embarking on a two-game road trip. The teams will meet again in a rematch at New Haven on Saturday, Feb. 7.
