Struggling MAAC Teams Clash as Mount St. Mary’s Visits Niagara SANBORN, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two men’s basketball teams seeking momentum in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play will meet Monday when the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers visit the Niagara Purple Eagles at Gallagher Center. Both teams enter with sub-.500 overall records. Mount St. Mary’s (7-12) snapped a three-game skid with a 78-68 road victory at Canisius on Saturday. Niagara (5-12) last played on Jan. 14, earning a 59-54 win at Canisius. The matchup features a pair of guards capable of carrying the offensive load. For the Mountaineers, Trey Deveaux has shown flashes of high production, including a 23-point, 8-rebound effort in a loss at Merrimack on Jan. 2. He is averaging 10.8 points over his last six games. Niagara will counter with Justin Page, who has been a consistent scorer. Page is averaging 18.5 points over his last four contests, highlighted by a 23-point performance in a win over Sacred Heart on Jan. 2 and 19 points in the recent victory at Canisius. The Mountaineers’ win over Canisius provided a boost, but road consistency has been an issue. Niagara, meanwhile, has found wins scarce at home this season, with a 2-5 record at the Gallagher Center. Defensive execution will likely be pivotal. In its Jan. 11 loss to Siena, Mount St. Mary’s allowed 67 points on 50% shooting. Niagara has conceded 71 points or more in three of its last five games. This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs this season. They will meet again at Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 20. Following this contest, Mount St. Mary’s will host Quinnipiac on Thursday. Niagara begins a two-game road trip at Fairfield on Thursday.
