Preview: Drexel Dragons at Towson Tigers TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) â Two teams riding the momentum of recent wins will meet Monday afternoon when the Towson Tigers host the Drexel Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association menâs basketball clash. The Tigers (10-9) and Dragons (9-10) enter with nearly identical records and both coming off convincing conference victories last Thursday. Towson defeated College of Charleston 61-52, while Drexel rolled to a 73-51 road win at Monmouth. Drexel has found a rhythm, winning three straight games after a three-game skid to open CAA play. A key catalyst has been guard Shane Blakeney, who is averaging 14.3 points over his last seven contests. He poured in a team-high 18 points in 33 minutes against Monmouth. Support has come from Eli Beard (15 points vs. Monmouth) and Kevon Vanderhorst, who dished out six assists in the same game. Towsonâs path has been more uneven, with its win over Charleston snapping a two-game losing streak. The Tigers will look to forward Tyler Coleman to provide a consistent spark. Coleman has been impactful in wins, scoring 13 points against Charleston and 15 points with seven rebounds in an 87-78 victory at Northeastern on Jan. 10. However, his production has dipped in some losses, highlighting his importance to the Tigersâ success. Defense has fueled Drexelâs win streak, holding opponents to an average of 48.7 points during the three-game stretch. Towsonâs defense was similarly stout last time out, limiting Charleston to 52 points. The game represents a chance for both squads to move above .500 in conference play and gain early positioning in the CAA standings. For Drexel, continuing its defensive intensity on the road will be critical. For Towson, establishing home court and finding scoring balance beyond Colemanâs contributions will be the focus. Mondayâs contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams this season. They are scheduled to meet again in Philadelphia on Feb. 21. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST at SECU Arena.
