PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Interstat) β€” Two teams seeking momentum in the SWAC will meet Monday when the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions host the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at the HPER Complex. The conference matchup features teams with nearly identical records. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-11, 2-1 SWAC) enters after a 73-61 road loss at Prairie View on Jan. 12. Bethune-Cookman (5-11, 1-2) arrives following a narrow 77-73 home defeat to Southern on the same date. A key battle will feature two of the league’s top scorers. Wildcats guard Jakobi Heady is averaging 15.8 points per game and is coming off a 21-point performance against Southern. He has scored in double figures in nine consecutive games, including an 18-point, 6-rebound effort in a win over Florida A&M on Jan. 3. He will be matched by Golden Lions guard Alex Mirhosseini, who is averaging 14.2 points. Mirhosseini has been a consistent force in SWAC play, scoring 17 points against Prairie View and averaging 15.8 points over his last four conference contests. He posted 21 points in a win over Alabama State on Jan. 5. Both teams have shown recent flashes. The Golden Lions have won three of their last five, including a 74-66 victory at Texas Southern on Jan. 10. The Wildcats snapped a five-game skid with a 74-65 home win over Grambling on Jan. 10 before the loss to Southern. For Bethune-Cookman, secondary scoring behind Heady will be critical. Quentin Heady added 17 points off the bench in the last outing. Arkansas-Pine Bluff will look for support from Quion Williams, who had 15 points against Prairie View. The game is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Following this contest, Arkansas-Pine Bluff begins a two-game road swing at Southern on Jan. 24. Bethune-Cookman returns home to host Jackson State on Jan. 24. Tip-off is set for Monday night in Pine Bluff.
