SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — Two American Athletic Conference teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Charlotte 49ers visit the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners at the Convocation Center. Charlotte (7-8, 1-1 AAC) arrives fresh off a dramatic 104-100 double-overtime victory over Wichita State last Saturday. The 49ers are led by guard Dezayne Mingo, who is coming off a career performance with 26 points and 10 assists in that win. Over his last five games, Mingo is averaging 10.4 points and 5.6 assists, serving as the catalyst for an offense that has shown flashes of potency. UTSA (4-10, 0-2), however, has struggled to find its footing, mired in a five-game losing streak. The Roadrunners are coming off a 76-57 loss at Temple where they were held to 32.8% shooting from the field. Guard Dorian Hayes, who scored 11 points with four assists against the Owls, will be a key figure in UTSA’s attempt to jump-start its offense. The Roadrunners have allowed an average of 88.2 points during their current skid. The matchup presents a contrast in recent form. Charlotte has won three of its last four, including overtime contests against Illinois-Chicago and Wichita State. UTSA’s last win came on Nov. 25 against Georgia Southern. Defense will be a primary concern for the home team; Charlotte’s 104-point outing highlighted its ability to score in bunches, while UTSA has surrendered 97 points or more in three of its last five defeats. This game marks the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs this season, with the Roadrunners scheduled to visit Charlotte on Feb. 15. For now, UTSA will look to leverage home court advantage to snap its streak, while the 49ers aim to build on their thrilling weekend win and climb above .500 in conference play. Tip-off is set for Wednesday night in San Antonio.
