Preview: Longwood Lancers at UNC Asheville Bulldogs ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two Big South Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Longwood Lancers visit the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at Kimmel Arena. Longwood (9-8) enters with a winning record but is coming off an 80-67 road loss at High Point this past Saturday. The Lancers had won three of their previous four games prior to that defeat. UNC Asheville (6-10) looks to snap a three-game skid, most recently falling 86-83 at Charleston Southern on Saturday despite a standout individual performance. The matchup features two of the conference’s top recent performers. Longwood will lean on forward Emanuel Richards, who is averaging 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over his last three contests. He scored 16 points with six rebounds in the loss to High Point. The Bulldogs counter with high-scoring guard Toyaz Solomon, who is coming off a career night. Solomon poured in 34 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the narrow loss to Charleston Southern. He has scored 31 or more points in two of his last five games, establishing himself as a primary offensive threat. Longwood’s supporting cast includes Redd Thompson, who added 15 points against High Point, and Jacoi Hutchinson. UNC Asheville has received consistent production from Kameron Taylor (21 points, eight rebounds Saturday) and Justin Wright (22 points). The Lancers hold the edge in the overall season record, but both teams have experienced similar struggles in close games. Longwood’s 68-71 loss at Wake Forest and UNC Asheville’s overtime defeat to Miami (Ohio) highlight the narrow margins defining their seasons. Wednesday’s contest opens the bulk of Big South play for both squads. The rematch is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, in Farmville, Virginia. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST at Kimmel Arena.
