PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Atlantic 10 rivals Saint Joseph’s and Duquesne, both looking to rebound from weekend conference losses, will meet Wednesday night at Hagan Arena. The Hawks (8-7, 0-1 A-10) fell 62-56 to Davidson at home on Saturday, struggling offensively down the stretch. The Dukes (9-6, 0-1) dropped their league opener 93-80 to VCU, despite a 22-point effort from Tarence Guinyard. A key matchup will feature Duquesne guard Jimmie Williams against Saint Joseph’s rim protector Justice Ajogbor. Williams has been a dynamic scorer, averaging over 18 points in his last four games, including a 24-point, 7-assist performance against Canisius on Dec. 22. The Dukes have won three of their last five, with the losses coming on the road at Nevada and Boise State. Ajogbor, the Hawks’ defensive anchor, is averaging 2.0 blocks per game over his last five contests. Saint Joseph’s has relied on a stout defense, holding opponents under 70 points in five of its eight wins, but has lost three of its last four. Both teams have navigated challenging non-conference schedules. Duquesne’s 9-6 mark includes a double-overtime road win at Davidson. Saint Joseph’s owns a neutral-court victory over Princeton and a road win at Temple. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST. For Duquesne, it begins a stretch of three road games in four contests. Saint Joseph’s continues a three-game homestand before traveling to Richmond on Sunday.
