FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the Big South Conference will meet Wednesday when the Presbyterian Blue Hose visit the Radford Highlanders at the D.N. Dedmon Center. Both teams enter the contest with identical 8-8 overall records. The matchup marks the conference opener for each squad, setting the tone for their league campaigns. Presbyterian arrives after an 86-77 home victory over South Carolina Upstate on Saturday. The Blue Hose have relied heavily on forward Jonah Pierce, who is in the midst of a dominant stretch. Pierce recorded a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Upstate, his third double-double in the last four games. Over that span, he is averaging 18.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. Radford counters with its own high-scoring threat in guard Dennis Parker. The Highlanders have won four of their last five, with Parker averaging 28.0 points per game during that surge. His most explosive performance came in a 107-77 rout of Coppin State on Dec. 14, where he erupted for 53 points. In Radford’s most recent outing, a 76-69 road win at South Carolina Upstate on Dec. 31, Parker led the way with 24 points and seven rebounds. The game will feature a contrast in recent scheduling. Presbyterian has played three of its last four at home, while Radford has played three of its last five on the road. The Highlanders will now enjoy a stretch of four home games out of their next five. Key for Presbyterian will be finding secondary scoring behind Pierce, with Jaylen Peterson and Triston Wilson coming off strong performances. Radford will look to leverage its home court and Parker’s offensive firepower to gain an early advantage in the conference standings. The teams are scheduled to meet again in Clinton, South Carolina, on Jan. 31. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
