Preview: Creighton Bluejays at Villanova Wildcats BRYN MAWR, Pa. (Interstat) — A surging Villanova squad looks to continue its strong start to Big East play when it hosts a struggling Creighton team at The Pavilion on Wednesday night. The Wildcats (12-2) have won five straight games, including an 85-67 road victory at Butler last Saturday, and sit near the top of the conference standings. Villanova’s success has been built on balance, with four players averaging double-figures in scoring during their win streak. Guard Acaden Lewis has been a catalyst, averaging 11.2 points and 4.0 assists over the last six games. He posted 12 points, five rebounds and six assists in the win over Butler. Forward Duke Brennan adds a consistent interior presence, coming off a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. Creighton (9-6) aims to rebound from a narrow 56-54 loss at Seton Hall last Sunday, a defeat that snapped a four-game winning streak. The Bluejays’ offense, which averaged 89 points during that win streak, was held to a season low. The Bluejays will lean on forward Jasen Green, who is averaging 13.7 points and 5.4 rebounds over his last seven contests. He nearly recorded a double-double in the loss to Seton Hall, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Guard Josh Dix, who had 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists against the Pirates, provides additional backcourt versatility. Villanova holds a distinct advantage in recent form and on its home floor, where it is 7-1 this season. Creighton, however, has shown explosive offensive capability during its recent winning stretch and will need to rediscover that rhythm against a stout Wildcats defense. This marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs. They are scheduled to meet again in Omaha on Feb. 14. Wednesday’s contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. EST tipoff and will be televised on FS1.
