STARKVILLE, Miss. (Interstat) — A surging Oklahoma team visits Humphrey Coliseum on Wednesday night to face a Mississippi State squad riding the hot hand of guard Josh Hubbard in a Southeastern Conference men’s basketball matchup. The Sooners (11-3) enter conference play having won five straight, including an 86-70 victory over Mississippi last Saturday. Oklahoma has showcased a balanced attack, scoring 85 or more points in four of those five wins. Mississippi State (8-5) has won four consecutive games, capped by a dramatic 101-98 overtime road win at Texas on Saturday. The Bulldogs’ streak has been fueled by Hubbard, who averaged 25.5 points during the run and erupted for 38 points against the Longhorns. Oklahoma will counter with its own interior force in Mohamed Wague. The forward is coming off a dominant 15-rebound, 10-point double-double against Mississippi, part of a stretch where he has averaged 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds over his last four contests. His presence will test a Mississippi State frontcourt that allowed 98 points in its last outing. The Bulldogs have shown resilience, winning three of their last four games in overtime or by five points or fewer. Protecting home court will be critical as they navigate a challenging January SEC slate. For Oklahoma, continuing its efficient offensive pace while containing Hubbard will be the priority. The Sooners have won their last three games by an average of 24.7 points. Wednesday’s contest tips off at 8 p.m. CST and will be televised on the SEC Network.
