CHICAGO (Interstat) — A surging Davidson team visits a struggling Loyola Chicago squad in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday afternoon at Joseph Gentile Center. The Wildcats (9-5, 1-0 A-10) enter on a high note after a 62-56 road victory at Saint Joseph’s on Saturday. Davidson has won four of its last five games, with the lone loss in that stretch a double-overtime defeat to Duquesne. The Ramblers (5-10, 0-1), meanwhile, are looking to rebound from a heartbreaking 70-68 home loss to Dayton on Saturday. Loyola has lost seven of its last 10 contests. Davidson will lean on guard Parker Friedrichsen, who is averaging 11.8 points per game. He scored 19 points in 40 minutes in the loss to Duquesne and had 13 points and seven assists in a win over Mercyhurst last month. Loyola Chicago’s key contributor is forward Miles Rubin, a defensive force who is coming off a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks against Dayton. He also had 12 points and five rebounds in a win at Rhode Island on Dec. 31. The Wildcats have found success with balanced scoring. In the win over Saint Joseph’s, Sam Brown led with 13 points and Roberts Blums added 11 off the bench. Davidson’s offense will test a Loyola defense that has allowed 80 or more points in five games this season. For the Ramblers, guard Justin Moore provides a scoring punch, coming off a 19-point, five-assist performance against Dayton. He and Rubin will need to counter Davidson’s efficient backcourt. This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will meet again at Davidson on Feb. 6. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Wednesday in Chicago.
