EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — A surging Murray State squad riding a seven-game win streak will look to continue its dominance in Missouri Valley Conference play when it visits struggling Evansville on Wednesday night at Ford Center. The Racers (13-3, 4-0 MVC) have been one of the league’s hottest teams, averaging 86.1 points during their unbeaten conference start. Their most recent outing was a commanding 86-66 home victory over Bradley on Sunday. Guard Javon Jackson has been instrumental, scoring 20 points in that win and averaging 17.1 points over his last six contests. He is shooting 54.2% from the field during that stretch. Murray State’s balanced attack also features productive performances from Mathis Courbon and Fredrick King, who combined for 27 points and 15 rebounds against Bradley. The Purple Aces (4-12, 0-4), meanwhile, are mired in a six-game losing streak and are still seeking their first Valley win. They are coming off a low-output 62-48 home loss to Northern Iowa, where they shot just 32.7% from the field. Forward AJ Casey has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 13.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He scored 17 points with five rebounds in the loss to UNI, but Evansville’s offense has sputtered, failing to reach 70 points in four of its last five games. This matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Murray State’s high-octane offense, which includes a 115-point outburst at Akron last month, will test an Evansville defense allowing 73.4 points per game. The Racers also hold a significant rebounding edge, outboarding opponents by an average of 6.5 per game. Historically, the road team has won the last three meetings in this series. Evansville will need a significant defensive effort and efficient scoring from Casey to halt its slide and pull an upset. Murray State aims to maintain its share of the conference lead. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday. Murray State visits Valparaiso on Saturday, while Evansville travels to Indiana State.
