Preview of Wednesday’s Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Matchup KNAPP CREEK, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two of the Atlantic 10’s hottest teams will clash Wednesday night when the Richmond Spiders visit the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies at the Reilly Center. Both teams enter with identical 11-win records, though Saint Bonaventure (11-3) holds a slight edge in winning percentage over Richmond (11-4). The game marks a key early conference test for each squad as they look to establish themselves atop the league standings. The Spiders are coming off an 83-75 road victory at Fordham on Sunday. Guard Will Johnston led the way with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists, continuing a stretch of strong play. Over his last seven games, Johnston is averaging 15.1 points and 3.4 assists, serving as a critical offensive catalyst. He will need to be sharp again against a stout Bonnies defense. Saint Bonaventure last played on Dec. 31, suffering an 82-89 road loss to VCU. In that game, forward Frank Mitchell posted 24 points and seven rebounds. Mitchell has been a consistent force for the Bonnies, scoring 19 or more points in four consecutive contests and averaging 22.8 points over that span. His interior battle with Richmond’s frontcourt, including Mike Walz who had 14 points against Fordham, will be pivotal. The Bonnies have been strong at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record at the Reilly Center. Richmond, however, has proven capable on the road with notable non-conference wins at Belmont and Charlotte. Historically, the series has been tightly contested, adding another layer to this high-stakes January matchup. The outcome could provide early separation in the crowded Atlantic 10 race. Following this game, Richmond will host Saint Joseph’s on Sunday. Saint Bonaventure will prepare for a Saturday home game against Fordham.
