Preview: Loyola Maryland Greyhounds at Army Black Knights WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Patriot League men’s basketball teams looking to halt losing streaks will meet Wednesday night when the Army Black Knights host the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds at Christl Arena. Army (7-8) enters the contest following a 76-69 home loss to Colgate on Saturday. The Black Knights had previously won three straight, including two overtime victories. Loyola Maryland (4-11) seeks to end a five-game skid, most recently a 79-64 defeat to Lafayette on Saturday. The matchup features two of the conference’s top individual performers. Army will lean on guard Ryan Curry, who is coming off a dynamic 24-point, seven-assist effort against Colgate. Over his last three games, Curry is averaging 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5.7 assists, showcasing his all-around capability. For the Greyhounds, guard Braeden Speed has been a consistent offensive bright spot during their difficult stretch. He scored 18 points in the loss to Lafayette and is averaging 16.4 points per game over his last five contests. His ability to create shots will be crucial for a Loyola offense that has struggled at times. Army holds a slight edge in the standings and will have the benefit of playing at home, where they are 5-3 this season. Their recent resilience in close games, evidenced by the overtime wins over Lehigh and Binghamton, could be a factor. Loyola, however, has faced a challenging non-conference schedule and will aim to translate that experience into its Patriot League campaign. Containing Curry and finding secondary scoring behind Speed will be key if the Greyhounds are to snap their losing streak. This game opens a critical early-January conference stretch for both squads. Following this contest, Army travels to face Boston University on Saturday, while Loyola Maryland visits Bucknell. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at Christl Arena.
