FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) — A pair of Horizon League teams riding winning streaks will meet Thursday when the Milwaukee Panthers visit the Wright State Raiders at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Both teams enter the New Year’s Day matchup at 7-7 overall after securing league victories in their most recent outings. Milwaukee (7-6) has won three straight, including a 77-55 rout of Purdue Fort Wayne on Monday. Wright State (7-7) has won two consecutive games, defeating Eastern Michigan and Oakland by an average of 10.5 points. The Panthers are powered by guard Isaiah Dorceus, who has been a consistent facilitator during the win streak. Over his last three games, Dorceus has averaged 8.3 assists, including a nine-assist performance in a win at Cleveland State on Dec. 21. In Monday’s win, he added nine points and seven assists in 26 minutes. The Raiders counter with guard TJ Burch, who is coming off a season-high 17 points in the 88-73 victory over Oakland. Burch has scored in double figures in three of his last five contests, providing a key offensive spark for Wright State. Milwaukee’s recent surge has been marked by efficient offense, scoring at least 77 points in each game of its streak. Alongside Dorceus, Aaron Franklin (13 points) and Danilo Jovanovich (nine points) were productive in the win over Purdue Fort Wayne. Wright State’s defense will be tested after forcing 16 turnovers and blocking five shots against Oakland. Forward Michael Imariagbe anchors the paint, recording three blocks in that game to go with 15 points. This contest opens the Horizon League schedule for both squads and serves as the first of two regular-season meetings. The rematch is scheduled for Jan. 30 in Milwaukee. The Panthers have shown resilience in close games, with two of their three streak wins coming by four points or fewer. The Raiders have experienced similar tight results, with three of their seven losses decided by three points or less, including an overtime defeat at Kent State. Tipoff is set for Thursday afternoon in Fairborn.
