CARROLLTON, Ga. (Interstat) ā A pair of teams seeking momentum to open the new year will meet Thursday when the Bellarmine Knights visit the West Georgia Wolves in an ASUN Conference menās basketball matchup at The Coliseum. Both squads enter at .500 or worse in nonconference play. Bellarmine (5-7) has dropped three of its last four, while West Georgia (6-6) has lost three of its last four. The game marks the conference opener for each program. The Knights are led by forward Jack Karasinski, who is averaging 21.5 points over his last four games. He scored 24 points in 30 minutes in Bellarmineās most recent outing, an 85-99 loss at then-Kentucky on Dec. 23. Michael Wilson added 16 points and five rebounds off the bench in that defeat. West Georgia counters with guard Shelton Williams-Dryden, who is coming off a 23-point, four-assist performance in a 74-103 loss at Georgia on Dec. 22. He averaged 15.3 points over a three-game stretch prior to a seven-point outing against Georgia Southern on Dec. 13. Bellarmineās schedule has been challenging, featuring road losses to power conference opponents Kentucky, Kansas State and Notre Dame. The Knightsā most recent win was a 79-64 victory over Chattanooga on Dec. 17. West Georgia has shown flashes, including a double-overtime road win at Troy on Dec. 1, but has struggled against high-major competition, falling to Georgia, Georgia Tech and UCLA. This contest begins a critical January slate for both teams. Bellarmine will travel to face Queens (N.C.) on Saturday. West Georgia will host Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday at The Coliseum in Carrollton.
