Preview: Chattanooga Mocs at UNC Greensboro Spartans GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — Two Southern Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Chattanooga Mocs visit the UNC Greensboro Spartans at Greensboro Coliseum. The Mocs (6-7) enter the New Year’s Day contest coming off a 73-66 road win at Alabama A&M on Dec. 21. The Spartans (4-9) are also riding high from a dominant performance, having routed Virginia-Lynchburg 131-53 on the same date. Chattanooga will lean on the hot hand of guard Jordan Frison. The standout has scored 20 or more points in five consecutive games, including a 27-point, 5-assist effort in the win over Alabama A&M. Over his last five outings, Frison is averaging 20.8 points and 4.6 assists per game. UNC Greensboro counters with forward Justin Neely, who is coming off a remarkably efficient 20-point, 14-rebound performance in just 15 minutes against Virginia-Lynchburg. In his last four games against NCAA Division I competition, Neely has averaged 19.5 points, showcasing his ability to anchor the Spartan frontcourt. Both teams have faced early-season struggles, particularly away from home. Chattanooga is 1-5 in true road games, with its lone win at Alabama A&M. UNC Greensboro is 1-4 at home against Division I opponents, with its sole victory a 68-62 decision over Youngstown State on Nov. 23. The matchup opens the conference schedule for both programs. Chattanooga’s offense, averaging 77.2 points per game, will test a UNCG defense that has allowed 78.2 points per contest against Division I foes. Beyond Frison, Chattanooga’s Jikari Johnson (17 points vs. Alabama A&M) provides secondary scoring. UNCG’s Donald Whitehead, who had 20 points and 7 assists last time out, and KJ Younger, who posted a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double, offer Neely crucial support. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
