Preview
CONWAY, S.C. (Interstat) — A surging Georgia Southern team will look to extend its winning streak when it visits Coastal Carolina in a Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball matchup on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, at HTC Center. The Eagles (10-5) enter on a six-game win streak, their most recent a 96-92 overtime victory over James Madison on Dec. 20. Guard Tavarus Webb has been instrumental, averaging 19.3 points and 3.2 assists during the streak. He scored 22 points in the win over James Madison and had a 32-point outing against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 3. Coastal Carolina (8-6) has been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses in its last six games. The Chanticleers are coming off a 68-62 road win at Saint Joseph’s on Dec. 22, led by guard AJ Dancler’s 21 points and four assists. Dancler averages 14.1 points per game but was held to just four points in a Dec. 18 loss at Appalachian State. The game marks the conference opener for both teams. Georgia Southern’s offense has been potent during its streak, scoring 90 or more points in four of the six wins. Coastal Carolina will counter with a defense that has allowed 67 points or fewer in three of its eight victories. Historically, the teams split their two meetings last season, each winning on its home court. They are scheduled for a rematch in Statesboro, Georgia, on Jan. 17. For Georgia Southern, forward Nakavieon White is also a key contributor, coming off a 25-point performance against James Madison. Coastal Carolina will rely on additional scoring from RaSheed Jones and Joshua Beadle, who each had 17 points in the win over Saint Joseph’s. The Chanticleers will need to slow down the Eagles’ high-paced attack to start their conference schedule with a home victory. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
