YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Interstat) — Horizon League play resumes Monday as the Youngstown State Penguins host the Detroit Titans at Beeghly Center. The Penguins (8-5) enter with a stronger overall record and momentum from a 74-65 win over South Carolina Upstate on Dec. 20. They have won five of their last six games, with their only loss in that span a narrow 80-77 overtime defeat at Robert Morris. Youngstown State is led by standout guard Cris Carroll, who is coming off a dominant 27-point, seven-rebound, five-assist performance. Carroll has scored at least 17 points in five straight games, including a 31-point outing at Robert Morris. The Detroit Titans (5-7) snapped a two-game skid with a 91-60 rout of non-Division I Siena Heights in their last outing on Dec. 20. They have struggled on the road this season, with a 1-5 record in true away games. Detroit will rely on guard TJ Nadeau, who has provided scoring punch. Nadeau dropped 26 points in a road win at Cleveland State on Dec. 6 and added 20 points in just 21 minutes against Siena Heights. This matchup opens a critical stretch of conference play for both teams. Following this game, Youngstown State begins the new year by hosting Oakland on Jan. 1, while Detroit returns home to face Robert Morris on Jan. 2. The Penguins won both meetings last season, including an 85-73 victory at Beeghly Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Monday.
